Frequently Asked Questions

As a student, you are legally allowed to work without restrictions on wages or working hours. The only requirement is that you fulfill your academic responsibilities. Many of our students choose to take part-time jobs alongside their studies.

Employment opportunities often relate to their field of study. For example, students of English Philology frequently teach English at language schools and mathematics students commonly find positions in the IT sector. However, students also work in a wide variety of other roles depending on their interests and qualifications.

Of course, during the admission process, you will have a faculty coordinator who will help you with every step of your application. Our staff will assist you throughout the entire admission procedure, including the visa application process, and answer your questions to ensure that all requirements are completed correctly and on time.

We have extensive experience supporting international students and a high success rate with visa applications.

The Czech Republic has a very affordable cost of living, and Ostrava is among the most affordable cities in the country. Average monthly living expenses range from 420 to 670 EUR.

Yes, the University of Ostrava provides accommodation for its students. Degree students are given priority, so you are guaranteed a place either in our J. Opletal Halls of Residence or in one of our partner dormitories. Our staff will assist you throughout the accommodation process.

The price for a shared three-bed room is approximately 160 EUR per month. Students may also apply for an accommodation scholarship of 300 EUR per academic year.

The following fees apply during the admission procedure:

  • Application fee (EUR 80–166, depending on the faculty)
  • Fee for the recognition of previous education (EUR 35)
  • Tuition fee (varies depending on the degree programme)

Please note that you may also incur additional costs for obtaining an apostille, a criminal record extract, and other administrative documents.

A language certificate is not required for most of our degree programmes. However, applicants to the English Philology programme must provide proof of English language proficiency.

We accept the following certificates:

  • Duolingo English Test (DET)
  • TOEFL
  • IELTS Academic

Please note that we do not accept a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter as proof of English language proficiency.
